The Great Flower Exchange. [04 Apr 2008|03:56pm]

Hi. I'm new to this so forgive me if I get it wrong! I am looking for people willing to contribute to an interactive snail mail exchange.
You must make a paper flower (hopefully the instructions for which will appear below!) and post it to me at -
Flower Exchange
Byam Shaw School of Art
2 Elthorne Road

Please leave a return address and I will then post you a flower created by another contributor.

I would be so grateful if people helped make this project!! thank you! x x

The starting piece must be square (post-it notes are ideal!)

Fold the paper in half -point to point.

Fold the left and right points up to the top.

Fold down the top two points so that the edges align.

this is a little tougher - you have to open up the fold and then flatten it down.

Fold the points over.

Fold the lower edge of the triangle up to the top so that the edges are aligned.

Glue the two risen areas together. this will create one petal.
You have to repeat these steps five times. Once you have the five petals you simply have to glue them all together.
You should have a flower that looks like these...

Happy Folding!!!! x x x x x x

new here, new project - I LOVE MY CITY [05 Oct 2006|11:12am]

hey all, ive just joined this community this morning, looks great!
i have a mail art project running which will be shown in salford, greater manchestr uk in feb, you maybe interested in taking part.
heres more info..

This is the first call out for a mail art project.

We all have a personal identity with the city in which we live in or near too, weather its a favourite building, street or landmark, personal or unique experience, memory or event, or it's just that we have a love of where we grew up and each individual as their own social history with their home city.

To investigate this further I am calling for people to send me a personal visual representation of their home city in any medium through the post. This could include:
Found object
List of words
.....anything goes.

Each item that is sent to me will appear in an exhibition in February 2007 in Salford, England. Each persons name and location will appear next to the sent work.

If you would like to take part in this project by sending me an item please e-mail artyrach@hotmail.com for my postal address.
If you would like to send an item that you think will cost a lot to send i can pay you back for the postage once the item has arrived.

Thank you and i hope to hear from you.

Art Gone Postal! [20 Dec 2005|02:05pm]

(x-posted to several communities interested in mail art)

A friend and I recently started a project that may interest some people in this community. After talking many times about how the postal service can be so fascinating in terms of transportation from anywhere on the globe, and how that pertains to art, we came up with a means for creating an online gallery of sorts for mail art. Called The Envelope Collective, we've set up an address to collect mail art from all over the world. Every piece we receive is photo-documented and uploaded to the website daily.

I didn't want to start this project without a more over-reaching goal in mind, and so we plan to document these submissions into a book as well. The proceeds from the book will go towards a charity/charities that benefit the arts in some way. There are several that we have in mind, all of which have different goals; the one I am most fond of uses money donated to buy and deliver art supplies to areas where people don't have the means, such as the Middle East and Africa. If the project continues to grow, we do plan to keep putting out books to help these charities.

So far the response has been amazing, and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Thanks for listening and happy holidays,

[04 Jul 2005|05:13pm]

This community has been inactive for awhile so I hope someone will have a suggestion for me!

My grandpa's 80th birthday is the 7th & for his birthday, we are trying to get 80 people to send him a card. He was in the hospital about a month ago with shingles & he got 55 cards & kept them all in his room so we figured 80 for his birthday would really make it one he would remember. I hate to think this, but it will probably be one of his last birthdays we'll celebrate.

I'm making him a card & I'd like to make it something that would stick out...something he'd remember.

Any ideas?
